Welcome to the first installment of "My Hygge Home," where we delve into the cozy corners of inspiring individuals. Today, we're privileged to step inside the Brooklyn haven of our own CEO, Caitlin. Her home is a testament to the power of hygge, a captivating blend of warmth, personality, and artistic expression.
Upon entering Caitlin's home, we were immediately drawn to a striking gallery wall. A captivating mix of media adorns the space, including paintings, photographs, and a breathtaking piece of stained glass by Frank Lloyd Wright – a fitting tribute to her design roots, as Caitlin got her start in the field working at a historic Frank Lloyd Wright house.
Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the hyggelig atmosphere Caitlin has cultivated. In the living room alone, the space is thoughtfully illuminated by a collection of carefully curated lighting fixtures, including the iconic FLOS crystal glass Noctambule Floor Lamp designed by Konstantin Grcic, the captivating VARMBLIXT Chandelier by Sabine Marcelis for IKEA , and the sculptural VP9 Portable lamp designed by Verner Panton. "I believe lighting has the power to transform a space," Caitlin explains. "It's not just about function, it's about creating ambiance. Soft, warm lighting is essential for that cozy hygge feeling."
Among her favorite decorative pieces are the Iittala Ateenan Aamu Glass Pendants, which catch the light, creating a soft, reflective glow and a gentle melodic sound, and the whimsical Vitra Resting Cat ceramic figure, adding a playful touch to her living room.

Caitlin's approach to decorating reflects a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, though she admits it can be a challenge to maintain in a truly lived-in space. 'Clean lines and minimal decor are key,' she explains. 'It helps create a sense of calm and spaciousness.' To achieve this, Caitlin favors natural materials like modal, wool, and cotton for upholstery and throws. She mixes soft textures with hard surfaces, incorporating metal accents and a variety of wood tones – think oak, ash, bamboo, and teak throughout the space. And of course, no hygge home is complete without the warm glow of candlelight.

One of the most striking aspects of Caitlin's home is the way she seamlessly integrates art and life. "I find that having a mixture of art and life throughout the space makes it feel more vibrant and personal," she shares. "Whether it's a collection of family photographs, a poster from her travels, or a piece of art that holds special meaning – these elements add depth and character.
Drawing inspiration from Caitlin's approach, we've found that hygge can be cultivated in many ways. Her home is a testament to this, filled with an abundance of pillows, blankets, and soft textures. As an avid reader, bookshelves overflowing with stories occupy prominent corners. This coziness manifests itself through a careful interplay of textures and lighting. “I enjoy incorporating hanging textiles on the walls and experimenting with different paint colors – all elements that contribute to the overall hygge atmosphere,” said Cait.
Resisting the urge to fill your home with fast furniture is key. Instead, focus on acquiring pieces that you truly love and that will stand the test of time. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors and textures. Introduce elements that reflect your personality and create a space that feels uniquely yours. This, I believe, is the essence of hygge: creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, finding joy in the everyday, and making your home a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation.
