Lakrids By Bülow, a licorice company born on the Danish island of Bornholm in 2007, is the only producer of handmade boiled licorice in the world. Created by Johan Bülow, this lauded company uses only the finest raw materials with no additives. Lakrids draws on the centuries-old Danish tradition of licorice-making to create classic flavors, like sweet and salty. 

On 07.07.07 the first Lakrids by Johan Bülow shop opened in Svaneke, Denmark. The idea was to cook the licorice in the shop, making sure that you could smell it in a radius of 100 meters. It worked. Everything was sold out within two hours. The last customer even bought the sample bowl on the counter.

In 2008, Johan bought a licorice machine and installed it in his newly rented factory in Taastrup, scaling production, to meet demand. This is where licorice NO.1, NO.2, NO.3 and NO.4 were born.
