Just purchased a Finarte rug? See below for extensive care instructions.
Good maintenance extends the use and lifecycle of the product significantly.
We have created a guide on how to take care of your Finarte products. From here, you find both general and more material-specific care instructions that are easy to follow.
Cotton and cotton blend rugs are durable and practical. The best way to keep the rug clean is regular vacuuming. Please note that modern vacuum cleaners are very efficient, and too strong suction power can damage the rug. Especially knotted cotton rugs, such as the soft Dyyni, are more sensitive to vacuuming than tightly woven cotton rugs. When vacuuming, use a low suction power and preferably a nozzle especially meant for rug vacuuming. We do not recommend tamping and shaking rugs, as these can damage the structure of the handmade products.
Although cotton doesn’t reject dirt like wool, it’s easy to clean with water. Stains can be removed from the rug with gentle rubbing with a damp cleaning cloth and a mild detergent.
We recommend a gentle hand wash or flat wash at 30 degrees Celcius (80F) for Finarte cotton rugs. Machine washing or the use of a pressure washer is not permitted. When washing the rug by yourself, please use a mild detergent and do not soak the rug. Wash the striped rugs along with the stripes and rinse the rug thoroughly. Dry the cotton mat in a shady place on a flat surface or hang it to dry so that the water drains along with the stripes. Wet rug must not be rolled or folded.
Read our more detailed tips for self-washing cotton rugs here. Although our tips are written for washing rugs outdoors, you can use the instructions also for washing rugs indoors. Take the environment into account, and please wash the rugs in a place where the washing water does not enter the water system directly. For big-sized cotton rugs, we always recommend professional cleaning. Big-sized rugs can be very heavy when wet and thus difficult to handle and get dry.
Wool is quite an easy-care rug material. The easiest and most important way to take care of a wool rug is regular vacuuming. If not removed by vacuuming, dirt and dust can damage the rug’s structure over time. Use a V-shaped motion when vacuuming a flat wool rug. For long-pile wool rugs, we recommend a lower vacuuming power. Too strong suction force can loosen hand-knotted wool rugs structure and detach fluff. From time to time, go through the long-piled wool rug with a vacuum nozzle more carefully to remove loose dust between the long piles.
Some fluff can come off from a new wool rug. This is normal for natural materials like wool and evens out over time. You can remove the fluff by vacuuming or brushing with a soft brush.
The wool rug is easy to freshen up by taking it outdoors. However, we do not recommend tamping or shaking rugs, as it can damage the handwoven surface. Preferably vacuum rug regularly to remove dust and loose dirt from the rug.
Wool naturally repels water and dirt. If liquid spills on the wool rug, it will not be immediately absorbed into the fibers and remains on the surface. Still work with stain removal quickly. First, remove any solid stain and soak up the liquid stain with a clean cleaning cloth or kitchen paper. However, if the stain gets absorbed into the rug, remove it by pressing again with a damp lint-free cleaning cloth, using a small amount of a mild detergent suitable for wool. Avoid abrasion of the stain and excess use of soap, as soft wool felts easily.
We recommend washing wool rugs in professional dry cleaning.
Viscose is a more sensitive material than wool or cotton. However, when properly cared for, a beautiful shining viscose rug is a long-lasting purchase. Use a protection spray for your new viscose rug before use. The protection spay prevents dirt from being absorbed into the viscose fibers and makes the maintenance of the rug easier. Vacuum the viscose rug regularly in the direction of the lint.
Some fluff can come off from a new viscose rug, but it evens out over time. You can remove the fluffy fibers by vacuuming or lightly brushing. The surface of the viscose rug may make you want to vacuum it often and with full power, but this should be avoided. Instead, use lower power of suction and also give your rug time to rest. An intense, repetitive rubbing motion can open the thread ends of the viscose rug, causing the beautiful shine of the rug’s surface to disappear.
Viscose fiber absorbs moisture quickly, so you should be quick to remove stains. To remove stains, use a soft, lint-free cleaning cloth and remove the stain from its edges by moving it to the center to prevent spreading it. Avoid strong detergents and rubbing. When removing stains, it is also worth noting that viscose is sensitive to water, and water can cause stains on the surface of the viscose rug.
For viscose rugs, we recommend professional dry cleaning.
The easiest way to keep a jute rug tidy is to vacuum regularly. Some fiber can come off the new jute rug, which is a normal feature of a jute rug.
The edges of the jute rug can sometimes curl. To smooth the rug, lightly dampen the curled area with water and place something flat and heavy on it, such as books. Let the weights stay in place overnight.
On the naturally multicolored surface of the jute rug, dirt is hardly visible. Finarte jute rugs are woven tightly, so loose dirt often stays on the surface of the rug and is easy to vacuum away. You can clean stains by gently rubbing them with a damp cloth.
We recommend dry cleaning the jute rugs with professional cleaning, but you can also wash a small jute rug yourself. Find our tips on rug washing from here. Although these tips are written for washing rugs outdoors, you can also use them for washing rugs indoors. Take the environment into account in rug washing, and don’t wash your rugs in places where the washing water enters the water system directly.
Please note that water may leave marks on the jute rug when washing it. Avoid soaking the rug and rinse it thoroughly. Dry the jute rug quickly after washing because being wet for a long time can affect the shape of the jute rug. Spread the rug on a flat surface and air dry in a shady place. Wet rug must not be folded or rolled. Wait that the rug is completely dry before using it.

Living in small spaces has become increasingly popular over the years, probably because of the increase in cost of living. But in part, it is also popular because of the simplicity. Smaller living arrangements can be really welcoming and comfortable, if done right. However, if it is done wrong it can feel crowded and overwhelming. Here are 4 ways to maximize limited space in your home.
Scandinavian furniture has been popularized by the rise of minimalist living spaces. It features beauty, and function, while focusing on clean lines and simplicity. It is often made from wood, and uses natural materials to complement the wood. As of 2021, New York City apartments ranged from about 250 square feet to 850 square feet, with the average being around 550 square feet. That is decent, but not the most spacious, which is why functional, minimalistic Scandinavian is the perfect compliment to a smaller apartment space.
Teak, in New York City, offers an amazing selection of Scandinavian furnishings that can be the perfect solution to your space needs. Here are some beautiful options to maximize your living space without sacrificing style and sophistication.
This wall shelf system is 29.5” long, 8.6” wide, and 9.8” high, which is the perfect size for just about anything you want to store and display. The best feature of these beautiful shelves is that they can be stacked. This ability to stack them gives you freedom to create a custom space by adding as few or as many shelves as you need. Some options include:
The solid oak is beautiful in its simplicity. The clean lines look great with any modern interior design concept.
Coat racks are arguably one of the most sophisticated things you can own. It shows your guests that they are welcome, and that you have a place to put their items so they don’t have to dump them by the door. This coat stand offers plenty of room for coats, scarves, sweaters, whatever. Plus, the design creates a perfect additional space to hang purses and backpacks without taking up coat space.
Bookshelves, and standing shelving units are really helpful and they add a touch of sophistication to a space. However, when dealing with a limited amount of apartment space, they can take up unnecessary floor space that may be needed for other, more important, things. That is why this wall mounted shelving unit is perfectly ideal for photos, plants, and small knick-knacks. It could even be used in the bathroom to store perfume, nail polish, and other smaller items.
When choosing furniture for a small space, it is important to figure out how you can use as little square footage as possible and maximize what you receive in return. This slender side table is a perfect example. It is 35” long, but only 17” wide so it can fit into small spaces easily. It is sturdy, so it can be used for other things and tall enough, at 28” that it can be used as a desk as well. The finishes come in white, black, and oak, and can be a compliment to any design theme.
Coats, purses, bags, scarves, and hats can take up a lot of space in a small area. When that happens it can make even the cleanest apartment look cluttered and horribly messy. This track rack can be used to hang just about anything, and the knobs can be adjusted closer or further apart based on need. The knobs can even be removed. Plus, the knobs won’t stretch or damage your clothing like a hook can.
One of the hardest things is to keep organized in a small apartment, but it is the most important or you end up with pure chaos. Which is particularly true if you are a lover of books, but are not sure how to display them without putting up a bulky bookshelf that takes up space? This book keeper can be placed on a table top and hold a decent amount of books. Keep one by your bed for late night reading, one on the coffee table for conversation pieces, and of course, you need one in the kitchen for cookbooks.
These are just a few of the ways that the simple beauty of Scandinavian furniture can not only compliment any apartment style, but also add extra storage for small spaces and apartments, while taking up as little space as possible. Which is one of the most important aspects when dealing with so little square footage. In a small space, it is often difficult to decorate, or accessorize your apartment or home. And that can make it difficult to be comfortable and happy in your own space. That’s why Scandinavian furniture is so ideal. Beautifully crafted pieces make you feel elegant, while also making you feel proud of your home, but not making you feel out of space and uncomfortable.
When you buy your Scandinavian furniture from Teak New York you have the versatility to buy online and have it sent to your home or it can be purchased at their retail location and taken home that day.
Emerging as a powerful art movement, Scandinavian design has made a huge mark on architecture, interior, and product design. The modern design movement began in the early 20th century in Nordic countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. The harsh and cold weather in these countries allowed to create living spaces that are practical yet utterly cozy and inviting.
Featuring simplicity and minimal aesthetics, Scandinavian designs are a great way to invite calm and comfort in your home. Following are four design principles that define the essence of Scandinavian design. These principles can easily be integrated into your home for a cozy, inviting, and practical living space.
Achieving functional and comfortable interiors:
The design approach helps to minimize visual clutter to deliver bright, airy, and open spaces. Scandinavian furniture also vouches for clean lines, gentle curves, and tapered legs to fall in harmony with the minimal, functional, and aesthetically appealing Scandinavian designs.
Taking inspiration from nature:
To add more visual interest to the space, the design also relies on soft pop of colors. Lively colors and patterns can be used in rugs and smaller accents to bring personality and visual interest to the spaces. These colors are usually inspired by nature to bring a strong sense of coziness. Soft and earthy tones of grey, pink, green, and blue are often used to elevate the visual appeal of a Scandinavian-inspired home. Hinting at nature, the color palette can vouch for an utterly calm, cozy, and inviting interior space.
The concept of hygge:
The Scandinavian style generally employs warm, natural fabric to instill a sense of coziness in the space. Fuzzy sheepskin, smooth leather, woven ropes, and chunky cable knit vouch for a comforting tactile experience. Scented candles, blankets, and throws to snuggle up, or a small corner to cuddle can further accentuate the cozy aura of hygge. Generally, a fireplace would serve as a focal point of the space to instill a strong sense of warmth in functional and purpose-driven Scandinavian-inspired spaces.
Bringing the outside to the indoors:
The focus of Scandinavian design always remains in rich, organic textures of wood or natural fabric that bring a dose of warmth and visual interest to the space. To further strengthen the connection with nature and bring the outdoors inside, plants remain an important part of Scandinavian design. These lush greens potted in a stylish vase or pot can serve as the life of the space. From cozy natural textures to refreshing greenery, Scandinavian-inspired homes vouch for a calming and relaxing aura.
The principles of Scandinavian design focus upon making our living space more practical and comfortable. It is about achieving the perfect balance between functionality, aesthetics, and comfort.
Elevating our daily experience, Scandinavian-inspired homes remain practical and livable to ultimately transform our home into a relaxing sanctuary. To find all of the items that are from Scandinavia, check out our home decor here.
