Low Hum by Faroe Islands artist Jana Jonhardsdóttir explores the structure of plants as well as the movement of the ocean. The composition features large flowing forms in textural black ink and utilize the L-system theory of biologist Lindenmayer – a study that suggests organic forms are easy to identify yet grow more complex and detailed as they expand and combine. The resulting composition is soothing through its sense of movement, yet intricate and detailed.
Jana Jonhardsdóttir is a contemporary artist based in the Faroe Islands, focusing primarily on a monochromatic color palette as well as her current environment, surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean - a transient source of inspiration for her abstract work. With a wide range of mediums such as wood, prints, paints, and carving, Jana makes expressionistic art consisting of repetitive patterns and minimalistic referencing. Much of the work resembles the mechanics of clocks - compulsive energy, repetitive and a reliable pattern, similar to the character of the ocean.
